Information
When dizziness or fainting needs medical assessment.
Not necessarily.
Dizziness has many possible causes, from dehydration and low blood pressure to inner ear problems or other conditions.
But when it is accompanied by palpitations, fainting, chest pain or occurs during exercise, a cardiac evaluation is needed.
A true loss of consciousness needs evaluation to understand its cause.
Particular caution is needed when fainting occurs during exercise, without warning symptoms, or in a person with known heart disease or a significant family history.
There may be a temporary drop in blood pressure when you stand up.
Dehydration, certain medications, and other factors can contribute. If the phenomenon is frequent or causes fainting, evaluation is needed.
Every person has a different history. The right answer starts with personal assessment.
