In hypertension, the first step is always our daily life. One of the simplest yet most important changes we can make - is to reduce salt.
Our body needs sodium, but in much smaller amounts than we usually consume.
Here are some simple "YES and NO's" for smarter, non-deprivation choices:
THE YES:
Fresh fruits & vegetables
Food without added salt (label: no salt added)
Spices & herbs instead of salt (oregano, basil, lemon, turmeric)
Unsalted nuts
“Low sodium” products
Homemade food instead of packaged
THE NOS:
Cold cuts (ham, bacon, sausages)
Ready-made sauces and dressings (especially soy sauces)
Cheeses with a high salt content (feta, Roquefort, halloumi)
Canned foods with brine
Snacks such as chips, crackers, popcorn
Bread and baked goods with added salt
We anticipate, we don't limit ourselves.
