The screening begins with the individual and family history, any symptoms, the clinical examination and the electrocardiogram. If a specific reason arises, additional testing may be required. Not all athletes need the same tests.
In most cases, the person being assessed is healthy and can exercise safely. The assessment aims to confirm this, without unnecessary testing or treating it as a mere formality.
